Want to know WHY stock appreciates or depreciates in the long term? You need to understand the distinct phases of a business cycle and the current valuation of the stock. If the current stock price hasn’t discounted future earnings, then the stock will go up in the long term. And if the stock price has already discounted future earnings then the upside is capped for several months and years.

‘Quality Stocks’ or ‘Growth Stocks’ at any price doesn’t work. Those who lately buy stocks are the ones who is going to suffer. Stock prices are the slaves of earnings and earnings growth in the long term. When earnings grow, stock prices go up. In the short term, say up to 3 years, stock prices are driven by demand and supply due to valuation changes and speculation.
