Retail investors are actually very successful in real estate (unless they are overleveraged). The reason is, they hold their investments easily for 5-10 years (if not decades).
If they are willing to do the same in stock market as well, then equities can do wonders for them. Because your time horizon matters more than anything else when it comes to stock market, just like real estate!
