Home » #Onevestor » #OneTip » #OneTip: 95% Loss — From 2 Lakhs To Less Than 10,000 In JUST 10 Years [MALAYALAM / EPISODE #18]
You may have came across a ton of headlines like: If you had invested Rs. 10,000 in XYZ company 20 years ago then you would have Rs. X crores today.

And the examples include: Infosys, Wipro, Reliance, Eicher Motors, Page Industries, MRF, Hero Honda, HDFC Bank, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma, L&T, ITC, and many more. And it’s true!

However, what you are missing is that, for every one Infosys, Wipro, Eicher Motors, or HDFC Bank there could be 50 other stocks that didn’t make it.

1. Kingfisher Airlines — Rs. 1 lakh invested in 2008 is now worth ZERO.

2. Unitech — Unitech is interesting. Rs. 10,000 invested in Unitech in 2000 was worth over Rs. 2 crores in 2008. But if you invested Rs. 2 crores in Unitech in 2008 then it’s worth just Rs. 2 lakhs today. Or a 99% loss.

3. JP Associates — It was a Sensex stock in 2008. And if you invested Rs. 1 lakh in 2008 then it’s worth less than Rs. 5,000 today.

4. Suzlon — Again a Sensex stock in 2008. If you invested Rs. 1 lakh in 2008 then it’s worth less than Rs. 2,000 today.

5. Reliance Communications — Yet another Sensex stock 2008. But if you invested Rs. 1 lakh in it, then it’s worth less than Rs. 3,000 today.

6. DLF — Again a Sensex stock. And the biggest Real Estate company in India. However, if you invested Rs. 1 lakh in it in 2008 then it’s worth less than Rs. 20,000 today.

Remember, these were not penny stocks. They were once blue chip stocks or a Mutual Fund favorite. And I have discussed only a handful of such stocks.

f you check the broader market then you will see 100s of such stocks that never recovered from its 2008 lows.

So next time, when you see that “If you invested Rs. X in X Company” remember that it’s just one side of the coin.

I hope you are learning a thing or two from my videos. If so, do share my video with your friends and family on your social media channels!

Happy Investing/Trading! 🙂
